Smart Surveillance – Call for Papers

(Smart) surveillance has been on this week’s political agenda in Europe (Parliament, Commission as well as national politics) and elsewhere like no other topic.

IRI is proud to be part of a project – called SMART – that analyzes legal technical and social aspects of smart surveillance from a multidiciplinary perspective. SMART will hold a workshop on „Intelligent Investigation – Challenges and Chances“ on 19th and 20th September in the representation of Lower Saxony at the European Union in Brussels.

Dimitris Droutsas – rapporteur for the draft directive on data protection in areas of detection or prosecution of criminal offences or the execution of criminal penalties (COM(2012) 10 final), – will discuss with the participants. Heads of Data protection authorities from Austria (Dr. Eva Souhrada-Kirchmayer),  Bavaria (Dr. Thomas Petri) and Bremen (Dr. Imke Sommer) will participate as well.

A Call for Papers is open (PDF here). Young researchers and practitioners are explicitly and warmly invited to send proposals. Deadline fpr abstract submission is: July 15th 2013.
