Peter Hustinx on Pseudonymous Data

The European Data Protection Supervisor (who will be in Malta tomorrow) issued a press release on the ongoing debate on data protection reform in Europe today.

One of the key questions he stresses (again) is in how far pseudonymous data is to be seen as personal in the legal sense – so that it is protected by data protection rules. Some background information on this issue – that has been in the heart of IRI’s research for several years – can be found in an article published in 2009 and in a book from 2010 (one might also wish to read a review of this work).
